Brian Felshaw, period 2
On the Morning of September 11th, 2001, our country was attacked by a radical terrorist group called Al Queda. This event has influence US culture permanently. It was an event not unlike the bombing of Pearl Harbor in 1941. A few days after the attack, President George W. Bush gave an address to congress and the American people regarding this attack. He gave an epic and inspiring speech that motivated and unified the country, very similar to John F. Kennedy’s inaugural speech with his discussions about the cold war. It is for this reason that I have chosen to memorize a selection of Bush’s speech. While I may have been young when the event occurred, I am able today to see the negative effects of this terrorist attack, and the positive effects of President Bush’s speech. This speech often motivates me when I am discouraged by anything, not just a terrorist attack. Quotes from it such as, “Whether we bring our enemies to justice, or justice to our enemies, justice will be done,” bring to me a sense of security and patriotism that I have not felt in the past before. It almost makes me want to go out and join the Marines and serve my country right then and there. While some may have the opinion that George Bush is a bad president; I maintain that he lead us through 9/11, and we have had no terrorist attacks or threats since then. For these reasons and others, I have decided to memorize selections of this wonderful speech.
